One of the most common questions we hear is: “Should I visit the Vancouver Lookout during the day or at night?” The answer is simple – both! And with your all-day pass, you don’t have to choose.
Since opening in August 1977, the Vancouver Lookout has offered breathtaking 360-degree views from 553 feet (168 meters) above the ground. Whether you visit during daylight hours or after sunset, each experience offers unique perspectives on Vancouver’s stunning landscape. Here’s what to expect during both times of day.
Vancouver Lookout Day View

Why the Daytime View is Special
In bright daylight, you can see for miles in every direction. Our enthusiastic tour guides can point out fascinating landmarks and buildings that are difficult to identify without the clarity of daytime visibility. On especially clear days, you can see all the way to Burnaby with its tall buildings rising on the horizon, and even Mount Baker in Washington state!
What to Look For During the Day
Stanley Park: Easy to spot with its dense canopy of trees, Stanley Park juts out into the Burrard Inlet, offering a natural retreat from the bustling downtown core.
Sun Tower: The distinctive mint green roof of the Sun Tower catches the eye. Once home to the Vancouver Sun newspaper, its architecture is definitely worth noting.
The Mountains: Three distinct peaks dominate the North Shore skyline—Grouse Mountain, Mount Cypress, and Mount Seymour. They’re visible across the Burrard Inlet and make for spectacular photographs.
Rogers Arena: The arena where the Vancouver Canucks hockey team plays is almost directly in front of you when you enter the Lookout. Look for the smaller, dark dome to the left of the larger white BC Place dome.
Vancouver Lookout Night View

Why the Evening View is Special
The city comes alive at night, with lights from buildings, cars, and skyscrapers bursting through the darkness. Downtown Vancouver’s bright lights rival those of major metropolitan cities, yet maintain a quieter, coastal charm. Beautiful views of illuminated bridges, streetlights, and glowing windows across the entire city create an unforgettable evening experience.
What to Look For at Night
Gastown: Vancouver’s oldest neighborhood becomes especially charming after dark. The rounded street lamps light up the entire district, creating a village-like atmosphere reminiscent of historic European quarters. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a pint at one of the area’s low-lit pubs.
BC Place Stadium: The big white dome is hard to miss during the day and even more spectacular at night. With the world’s largest retractable roof and animated color lighting displays, BC Place is one of the most beautiful sights to behold after sunset.
Lions Gate Bridge: This suspension bridge connects Vancouver to North Vancouver and West Vancouver across the Burrard Inlet. Designed by the same architect behind San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, its twinkling lights reflected in the water below create a stunning sight.
Canada Place: Built in 1986 for the World’s Fair (with a transportation theme), this building resembles a sailing ship with its distinctive white sails. The structure lights up in beautiful colors at night and truly looks like a ship sailing out to sea.
The Best Part: You Don’t Have to Choose
Here’s the great news: your Vancouver Lookout ticket is valid all day! Visit in the morning to take in the mesmerizing mountain views and identify landmarks with crystal clarity, then return in the evening to experience the breathtaking transformation as the city lights illuminate the skyline. The city comes alive at night, with lights from buildings, cars, and skyscrapers bursting through the darkness.
